Moving Software to a New Computer

As older computers are replaced by newer and faster models, you may wish to transfer Rybett DNC software to a new computer. Depending on your situation, you may choose any of the following methods:

1. Reinstalling from the original floppy diskette.
2. Copying files directly from the old computer.
3. Upgrading to the latest software revision.
4. Changing from DOS to Windows 3 or Windows 95/98.

REINSTALLING from the ORIGINAL FLOPPY:

Follow the instructions in the manual just as you did the first time around. However, we recommend that you do not overwrite your new boot files during installation. If you wish to maintain your old machine names and setups, you must copy the following files from your old DNC directory:

MACHNAM.TXT old machine names
MACHDEF.DAT old machine setups
C3MENU.MNU old default menu

COPYING FILES DIRECTLY from the OLD COMPUTER:

Create a DNC directory on your new computer to match the name on the old computer and copy all files into the new directory. Make sure that no DOS commands from your previous computer are used on the new computer since your DOS revision will most likely have changed. A problem most often occurs with the MODE.COM command. If present in your new DNC directory, delete it and set a path to the DOS directory in your AUTOEXEC.BAT boot file. For instance:  PATH = C:\DOS;C:\;(plus other paths)

UPGRADING and CHANGING from DOS to WINDOWS:

Rybett Camstore, Camshare and Executive DNC software are compatible with Windows 3 and Windows 95/98 when operating in DOS emulation mode. No Rybett software is compatible with later versions of Windows such as NT or XP. If you wish to run true Windows software, contact Bill Timm at Timm Computer (702) 897-1385.
